There’s probably nothing quite more terrifying than laying in bed at night and hearing something scratching at your walls. If you’ve ever had critters in your attic like a raccoon maybe you’ve heard some of the thuds and other noises they make while up there. But the sound of something scratching and scurrying through and up the walls behind where you lay your head is another level of bone-chilling fear for many.
The good thing is, whatever’s in your wall is likely stuck there – meaning it can’t come out if you’re worried it will bite you (though it likely wouldn’t) the bad news is – it’s trapped there and if it ends up dying within the walls of the home you’ll be dealing with a stench you have no idea the source of.
Before you get to that point though, let’s look at some of the signs that could point you to the reality that a critter is living inside the walls of your home.
-
Late Night Noises From Inside the Walls
One of the most obvious ways to tell nocturnal creatures like bats and mice are inside your walls is if you hear their scratching from there during the night time hours.
-
Evidence of Droppings
Even if you don’t see the critters at night and it sounds as if they are contained within the walls of your home, you could also start to see their droppings around wall outlets or on the floor. This is an indicator they are in fact in there.
-
Stains
You could also start to see staining on the wall if there is urine or other waste being left behind by these creatures. Never let stains coming through the walls go without having a professional look for the source.
