Here in this part of the U.S., it’s not uncommon to see squirrels scurrying about all day. Climbing up and down trees, leaping across roadways and even scurrying around for scraps of food. Even though they’re not a domesticated pet, they’re cute and small and many people admire them.
When they stay out of your home and don’t cause damage to the dwelling, living with squirrels on your property is not an issue at all. In fact, they also have some really great features that we can appreciate.
Here are 3 things to love about squirrels.
1. Save the Planet
Perhaps one of the most important contributions squirrels make to the world is the fact that they contribute to our ecosystem by planting new trees. Even if by mistake, when they leave behind nuts they’ve buried, new trees are bor. Anything that’s naturally helping to save the planet is a plus in our book!
2. Medical Research
Squirrels have also become a source of study for scientists who are developing medications that could help with medical issues such as stroke. Squirrels brains are being used to conduct the studies and trials as they drop body temperature and survive very low blood flow to the brain during hibernation. This is something that could help those who suffer from a stroke.
3. Insect Removal
Yep. If you’re spending more time out in the yard because there are fewer insects nipping at you, you can thank squirrels too! While they predominantly feed off plant matter, they’ll occasionally eat insects. That means less of them to bite you!
